The Meeting

Olá a todos!!!

Welcome to the website for the 2019 Annual Symposium of the EAAM – European Association for Aquatic Mammals.
As you can imagine, all of us, at Zoomarine, are very honoured and eager to welcome all of you, once again, to Portugal and, most specially, to Zoomarine.

In order to sure that all goes as smoothly as possible and that you can make the most of your experience in the Algarve and at the Symposium, there are several things you may want to know in advance.
So, we have put together some information so you could find all the data you may need to better prepare your trip, your stay and your return Nevertheless, you should not hesitate in contacting us, should you feel the need for more detailed information, any specific guidance and/or if you have any suggestions. Just e-mail or call us – we will be glad to help!

Mark your calendar: between March 4th and 7th 2019 you will be in Portugal, having the time of your life!

Bellow you can find detailed information about transports, hotel, weather, meals and so forth.

In the meantime, do not forget:

  • Book your flights as early as possible (ideally, to Faro’s International Airport)
  • Register and take advantage of the early registration fees
  • Consider submitting an abstract [as always, the deadline is December 21st)
  • Consider having your facility sponsoring one event at the symposium
  • Let the Education Committee know if you would like to a Judge
  • Check the box should you wish not to be charged for a “nature fee” [EAAM-2019 contribution to a Conservation Project]

We all look forward to welcome you, in the Algarve, on March!

Thank you.

Transports

Depending on sponsorships, we might be able to secure free transportation to and from FARO’s International Airport. As such, we highly recommend that you let us know your flight details [date, time, airline and flight number) up to 10 days before the due dates, should you wish to have access to the shuttle (Airport-Hotel and Hotel-Airport = around 50 km each way). Should you prefer autonomous transportation, be aware that, in the Algarve, public transportation is scarce, thus taxis and UBER will be the best option.

If you are arriving at LISBON's International Airport, you will have an extra 240 km ahead of you. IN the case, you might want to rent a car, take a bus or, ideally, take the train. Trains, being the best option, implies stopping at “Ferreiras – Albufeira” station and, then, take a taxi/UBER.

Depending on the hour, taxis are abundant and the fares depend on the number of miles/kilometres, not on the duration of travel. There might be a meter running – but you should enquire, prior to starting, about the price to your destination. Tipping is at the customer’s discretion (and is not common, in Portugal).

If you are planning to rent a car we recommend that you contact us, at Zoomarine, in advance [or, if already at the hotel, contact the Hospitality Desk] in order to take advantage of the special rates are negotiating.

Should you have any questions or doubts, please contact us.

Accomodation

The local organizing committee has chosen "Hotel NAU Salgados Palace" due to its quality, location and the very special rates (event for those you may want to stay some extra days).

Hotel website: www.salgadospalace.com

The special daily rates are:

A Single (per room/night):
95 €
B Double (per room/night):
110 €

Special rates terms: booking through specific "promo code": EAAM2019; rooms and the above-mentioned prices will be secured on a "first-come, first-served basis" until 13/February; after 14/February, prices will be become "dynamic" and Local Organizing Committee will not be able to guarantee availability.

However, should you wish to extend your stay in the Algarve (and we do recommend it!), these special rates will apply between March 1st through 12th..

The meetings will take place at the hotel. On March 7th Zoomarine will be honoured to have you all visiting the park and enjoying a very special Gala Dinner. Spouses will be welcome on the tour (but require a previous and specific registration).
