Porto d'Abrigo
Rehabilitation Center for Marine Species
Recognising the need for a structure dedicated to the rehabilitation of marine fauna in Portugal, Zoomarine opened Porto d’Abrigo in 2002, the country’s first Rehabilitation Centre for Marine Species.
Since then, in collaboration with the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), a multidisciplinary team has been working to rescue, rehabilitate and return marine and aquatic animals to the wild. This centre has been crucial to the recovery of various species, promoting conservation and environmental awareness.
