Seawater:
natural, efficient and environmentally friendly

More than one third of the water used at the Park is collected directly from the sea, through a pipeline system approximately 4.5 km long, which transports water from Praia dos Salgados to the Park, directly contributing to the conservation of natural resources.

After appropriate treatment, this water supplies:
• Marine habitats.
• Water attractions.

In addition to being a sustainable alternative to freshwater, it enhances the quality of the experience for both our animals and visitors.
After use, this water is treated in an internal system and returned to nature at Lagoa dos Salgados, a wetland of great ecological value.

Irrigation with reused water: good for the gardens, better for the planet

As the Algarve is a region that recurrently experiences drought conditions, adopting solutions that enable efficient management of this resource is even more important.
Zoomarine has a large area of green spaces that require daily irrigation, using approximately 50,000 m³ of water per year. By adopting this water reuse system, we make use of water that would otherwise be discarded, but which has numerous benefits for irrigation.
After treatment at the wastewater treatment plant, the water passes through an additional treatment facility at Zoomarine, which ensures the highest levels of quality and safety through filtration and disinfection.

Responsible use of drinking water

We use drinking water in areas such as kitchens, changing rooms and toilets. Even in these areas, we have adopted water-efficiency solutions, such as flow restrictors on taps and showers and automatic timers, which help prevent water waste.
