Zoomarine's Porto d'Abrigo was established in 2002 as Portugal's first marine species rehabilitation centre, in collaboration with the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.
Porto d’Abrigo’s main mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and return to the wild marine animals found in compromised survival situations throughout the southern region of the country. The centre is equipped to receive small cetaceans, seals and sea turtles. Due to the need and availability of equipment, it has also started to receive river otters and turtles.
