This organisation works in the conservation of aquatic mammals in Latin America, such as whales, dolphins, otters, seals and manatees, promoting the protection of endangered species and their habitats
Through scientific research and conservation projects carried out in Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, the organisation works closely with local and international partners, encouraging knowledge exchange, the development of local capacities, and the implementation of concrete conservation measures.
Working under the motto “People are the problem – people are the solution”, Yaqu Pacha believes that nature conservation is only possible through the active involvement of local communities, valuing science, environmental education and public participation in the conservation process.
Zoomarine supports Yaqu Pacha’s conservation projects in Latin America, contributing financially and by providing specialised resources such as veterinarians, biologists and other experts, particularly in emergency situations. These actions include responding to the mass cetacean mortality crisis in the Amazon River and the rehabilitation of Francisca, a Lahille’s bottlenose dolphin.
Special focus is given to the conservation project for Lahille’s bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus gephyreus), a highly endangered subspecies with only around 600 individuals remaining in the wild, as well as to initiatives aimed at habitat protection, scientific research, and collaborative work with local communities.
