Together We Protect, the extension of Zoomarine's mission
Since its foundation in 1991, Zoomarine Algarve has always had as its core values: EDUCATE, ENTERTAIN, PRESERVE, KNOWLEDGE and DEVELOPMENT, contributing to raising awareness among its visitors through its environmental education and awareness programmes. To this end, we have been developing and supporting Conservation, Research and Environmental Education projects, as well as community actions.
Learning directly from animals, in a close environment, can be an experience of a lifetime. We believe that this connection can increase respect for wildlife and motivate the adoption of pro-environmental behaviours, which are essential for the protection of species.
As a form of direct support for emergencies involving wild animals, Zoomarine’s Porto d’Abrigo was created in 2002, the first rehabilitation centre for marine species in Portugal, which, in collaboration with the portuguese Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), has already rehabilitated and returned hundreds of aquatic and marine animals to their natural environment.
In 2014, the Together We Protect philosophy was created,
encompassing all conservation, environmental education, scientific research and community involvement initiatives in which Zoomarine participates or develops.
Zoomarine’s Together We Protect philosophy is more than a vision — it is a true guide that brings to life our actions for the benefit of the communities and the environment, strengthening the mission of environmental education outside the theme park, an extension that recognizes the interdependence of society so that, together, we can protect the sustainability of our planet, it’s species and their habitats.
Always present in its mission, and since its foundation, Zoomarine has adopted innovative and pioneering strategies that effectively reduce its environmental impact and promote resource sustainability.
